FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the general admission requirements?

Requirements vary by institution and programme, but most ask for your academic transcripts, proof of English proficiency (such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE), a statement of purpose and references. Postgraduate programmes may also require a bachelor’s degree and work experience. Our counsellors can check your eligibility for free.

When are the intakes in Canada?

Most Canadian institutions have a main Fall (September) intake, a Winter (January) intake and, for many college programmes, a Summer (May) intake. Application deadlines are usually 6–9 months before the start date, so plan early.

How much do tuition fees and living costs come to?

Tuition depends on the institution, programme and province. Living costs also vary by city. As part of your study permit application you must show proof of funds for tuition plus living expenses. We will give you an accurate estimate for your chosen programme and city.

Do I need a study permit or a visa?

Most international students need a Canadian study permit, and depending on your nationality a visitor visa or electronic travel authorisation (eTA) to enter Canada. You usually need a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution (DLI) and a provincial attestation letter where required. Rules change, so always confirm current requirements on the official Government of Canada website.

Can I work while studying and after graduation?

Eligible full-time students with a valid study permit may work part-time off campus during the academic term and full-time during scheduled breaks, within the limits set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. After graduating from an eligible programme you may apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Are scholarships available for international students?

Yes. Many universities and colleges offer entrance scholarships, merit awards and bursaries for international students, and some provinces and the Government of Canada run scholarship programmes. Ask our counsellors which awards you may qualify for.

Immigration rules are set by the Government of Canada and may change. This page is general guidance only; always verify current requirements at canada.ca before applying.
